I shall be flying through France avoiding all but class E and D airspace. Although radio equipped, I do not have a transponder. Is this likely to be a problem for class D transit clearance?

I have discussed this question with a French Instructor his answer is:
It is always a problem without a transponder in Class D airspace. It is possible :
1/ If there is no IFR traffic in this area .
2/ In normal VFR conditions.
3/ If you can follow the designated reporting points.
However at all times it is at the discretion of the controllerof the airspace.
