Mike mentions that it is necessary to enter and leave France via a customs airfield and that was certainly the 'official' position when I telephoned a DGAC contact recently for confirmation.

However, discussions on other aviation forums suggest that it is possible to enter and leave France via non-customs airfields, by arrangement.

If anyone has questions about flight plans or customs clearance, they can ring one number which covers all of France— +33 (0) 810 437 837

Hi Mike

Thank you very much for an excellent, informative and much needed article.
I am certain that this will enourage numerous British pilots to "take the plunge" and explore the skies of France.
