First of all, let me introduce myself a little bit. I am Alain (about 60) from Nancy (France) and I got my PPL in July 2005. My home airfield “Lunéville-Croismare” is situated in the North East of France. Here is a photo of a winter final on runway 09.
I am used to flying about 50 hours per year and very often with my wife (Yolande) who takes place in the right seat. We love discovering France seen from the sky.
Some months ago reading a pilot magazine, I came across a small ad about “an English Flying Instructor” with the Aéro-Club de Limoges for English speaking flyers in France.
Willing to improve my English Radiotelephony and very interested to fly a Diamond, I decided to contact Sue to know if it was possible for a French PPL to stay at La Chataigneraie and to have flying lessons in English. Her enthusiastic response was “Yes, of course” so we rent out “La Porcherie” for one week mid-July.
We loved very much our stay in this very charming and relaxing country place surrounded by horses and dogs. Finally, we met face to face with Sue and we planned training flight to be able to fly solo on Robin DR400 and above all to get training on the DA40. Everything went very smoothly. Sue is a very nice instructor always trying to give you confidence. It is a real pleasure to fly with such an instructor in the right seat.
My first solo flight on the DR400, F-GYDD, with my wife, was to fly over Rochefort and La Rochelle with a full stop in Niort to meet friends. By the end of the week, I was able to discover the DA40, F-GUVE, and accompanied with my wife we decided with Sue to fly to Millau-Larzac airfield crossing over the fantastic “Viaduc de Millau”. Here is a photo taken by my wife. I have very much appreciated flying the DA40, experiencing the PA on the flight back to Limoges.
Last but not least, we had also the possibility to drink some beers with Carl Pryce and Ken Roberts, English-speaking flyers, who were staying at La Chataigneraie at the same time. It was nice and very friendly.
We were very delighted to share this week with you, Sue. Sure, you have gained two new friends. We are already making plan for the future to continue flying with you.
